Over the last 3 months, there has once again been a variety of subjects on offer at the monthly Monday Fellowship talks. In May, Revd. Pete Gunstone, gave us an engaging and informative talk entitled: “Mountain or Mound? Diary of a Munro Bagger”, which was all about his own experiences and included interesting photographs documenting his walking trips and showing the difference between a “mountain” and “mound”!
In June Maggie Myers recounted the little-known and absorbing story of our “Khartoum Altar frontal”, now sadly in a delicate condition but once used in All Saints Cathedral in Khartoum and made in 1905 by the ladies of the renowned Leek Embroidery Society. In July, Dianne Excell presented “A Village in Stitches”, a fascinating talk all about the Heaton Tapestry. Dianne gave an overview of the whole project, provided pictures of the wonderful embroidered panels themselves and talked about her own involvement and stewardship of the project. We were all in awe of the scale of this project and its success.
The August Monday Fellowship will be the annual afternoon strawberry tea at the Deanery, hosted by Dean Andy and Ali Bowerman and all members are welcome to join the event starting at 2pm. For September’s talk, Canon Ned will speak about his experiences in Pakistan. Everyone is welcome to join us for the Monday Fellowship talks and refreshments afterwards.
