The ‘Big Brew’ is the Cathedral’s annual event to support the work of ‘Transform Trade’, an organisation which works for trade and climate justice. Its aim, put simply, is to ‘transform trade so everyone benefits.’ Currently, most trade values profits over people, there is exploitation, environmental damage and huge inequality. When these are reversed and people are valued over profit, the world becomes a vastly different place. Business becomes a tool for good.
In South Asia and East Africa, Transform Trade partners with farmers, workers and artisans to help them benefit from more sustainable and equitable trade.
Transform Trade has begun to help create 100 community-owned shops called Sadaipati in Bangladesh – and the inspirational women running these shops are transforming their communities. Transform Trade’s aim is ‘to help build 100 of these transformative shops – your Big Brew could help us build the next one.’
In the UK Transform Trade advocates and campaigns for changes to business practices and government policy.
For several years, we have raised funds for Transform Trade by holding a ‘Big Brew’ – quizzes, short films, tea, coffee, juice and cakes! This year’s event will follow the morning Eucharist on 22nd September. The September Update will contain full details.
