On Sunday morning we were delighted to welcome the Bolton Road Community Cycling Club to the Cathedral for the first stop of their annual Yatra bike ride. Arriving at the Cathedral at just before 9am they got a chance to speak to the Revd Pete Gunstone about the building and hear some of the organ, played by visiting organist Dr Ed Jones. They also had a brief introduction to the building from keen cyclist and EcoGroup member Mike de Villiers, who then joined them on the ride.

The 25-mile cycle trip then took them onto Leeds Road, to visit two Sikh Gurdwaras, a Hindu temple, and the Abu Bakar Masjid, before heading out on the City Superhighway 1 towards Leeds for lunch at the next Gurdwara.

A representative of the Bolton Road Community Cycling Club said of the ride:

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to pay our respects while promoting inclusivity among all races and religions through cycling. [It’s] a meaningful day of cycling as we connect communities and explore places of worship of different faiths.”

You can find out more about them on their Facebook page.
