Welcome to the June edition of the Cathedral Update.
The last time I wrote the introduction to the Update was immediately prior to Lent. Although this, and Easter, are well behind us in the calendar, I’m drawn again to the theme that I was thinking about at that time. The Easter story is one that we know but is also something that we might regard as being unknown. The unknowingness comes from the mystery and miracle of the death and resurrection of Jesus. It also comes from the fact that the stories in it are active and ongoing and invite us to choose to participate in them.
Participation may take any forms, whether through attending one of our regular services of worship or joining in with one of our many events that cater for all ages and tastes.
Participation might involve attending one of the services featuring our wonderful choir. They have been particularly busy over the past few weeks participating in a Songs of Praise recording, in a service for the Clergy Support Trust at St Paul’s Cathedral, and also in the wonderful and uplifting Sunday Worship service on Radio 4 – a link to which can be found in the update. Detail of all our services and the music the choir will be performing until the end of August can also be found in this update.
Alternatively, participation might involve coming along to one of our events or installations forming part of our ‘Weaving Stories’ season. Together these celebrate, in various ways, the industrial heritage of the city. This might include helping weave a tapestry on our loom located at the West end of the cathedral over the following months.
Details of all the events, activities and services can be found in our new “What’s On” booklet which is available below in the update.
Whatever the reason for your visit – for worship, for music or for reflection – we look forward to welcoming you to Bradford Cathedral.
