The Saying Goodbye Service on Sunday 26th October will be an acknowledgement and remembrance for anyone affected by the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy, at birth or in infancy.

Over the weekend of 25th and 26th October, Bradford Cathedral will be hosting events and services in honour of Baby Loss Awareness Week, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of the common yet often unrecognised issue of child loss
during pregnancy, birth, or infancy.

To mark this week, Bradford Cathedral will be hosting a couple of events in conjunction with Saying Goodbye, a branch of the Mariposa Trust charity dedicated to raising awareness of this issue.

On Sunday 26th there will be a “Saying Goodbye” service at 3.30pm, providing a platform for individuals to acknowledge and grieve for their lost loved ones. Another event on Saturday afternoon will provide an opportunity to hear more
about the work of the charity and about how we might better respond to the issue.

Last year, the introduction of baby loss certificates recognising babies lost before 24 weeks of pregnancy marked a positive step in society’s recognition of the trauma associated with such losses.

The Revd Duncan Milwain, Bradford Cathedral’s Assistant Curate, says: “The pain of child loss and childlessness, has historically been ignored, even stigmatised. The Saying Goodbye service offers a space for the public recognition of private grief, allowing individuals to acknowledge and remember their lost babies.”
