As we mark the fourth anniversary of Bori Benko’s tragic passing in November 2021, we honour her memory and her unwavering passion for inclusive education for children with special needs and disabilities. Bori dedicated her life to the development and teaching of young children, firmly believing in the transformative power of inclusive education.

Less than a year after her passing, the Bori Benko Foundation for Children was established to carry forward her vision. The foundation began its operations in partnership with the Veresegyház Tree of Life Waldorf School, committed to making inclusive education accessible to more children in Hungary—a country where such opportunities remain limited for many.

Bori’s dream was to return home and leverage her knowledge and experience gained in England to benefit local children. In her spirit, we are grateful to have Laura Dobrocsi, an extraordinary Extra Lesson teacher who shares Bori’s values. Laura is a Psychopedagogy Teacher specializing in Visually Impaired Pedagogy Therapy. She is kind-hearted, dedicated, and committed to supporting both children and their families. Her work at the school is highly effective, offering continuous development opportunities for children in individual or small group settings. Through ongoing assessments, Laura develops tailored programs for students with special educational needs.

In the first grade, children participate in regular movement coordination exercises, which support nervous system development and overall well-being. Parents are deeply grateful for these additional opportunities, and we, as Bori’s family, sincerely appreciate Laura’s conscientious work—work that aligns closely with Bori’s passionate attitude. Observing her legacy live on provides profound relief and hope for us.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Bori’s parents, Ferenc and Krisztina, and her brother, Ferenc

As we remember the anniversary of the death of our friend Bori we continue to pray for her friends and family in their loss and encourage all who wish to to give to the foundation set up in her memory. Details of which can be found here: https://benkoborialapitvany.hu/en/
