Cathedral life is full of changes, and as Canon Paul steps up to the role of acting Dean following Dean Jerry’s retirement, we are very pleased to welcome Canon Philip to the Cathedral as Acting Canon Precentor.

Yorkshire born and bred, Philip began his career with the Church of England at St. Stephen’s House Oxford, where he completed his pre-ordination training before becoming curate at St. Martin’s Scarborough, then onto becoming the vicar of All Saints Leek and St. Matthew’s Meerbrook in North Staffordshire.

Philip has also had a connection to Bradford Cathedral for many years. After serving as chaplain to the Bishop of Blackburn for 6 years following his time in North Staffordshire, Phillip became the vicar of St Margaret’s in Ilkley, as well as serving as area dean of Saint Craven and Wharefdale. It was around this time that Philip was made an honorary canon of Bradford Cathedral by Bishop Nick. During this time he had a close working relationship with the cathedral.

Philip and his wife Sue have two children, Rebecca, who has just graduated in psychology from Durham University, and Anthony, who is a former organ scholar here at Bradford Cathedral.

“I’m looking forward to working as part of the cathedral team and especially contributing to its liturgical, musical and pastoral life”.

In his spare time, Philip has a keen interest in football and cricket, and plays a little cricket and walking football.

We are very pleased to have him join us at the Cathedral and look forward to seeing what he brings to cathedral life.
