ONE of Bradford’s leading choirs will celebrate 30 years of song in a gala showcase concert at Bradford Cathedral, with orchestra, on Saturday 8th July at 7:30pm.
The Chordiality singers will celebrate their 30th anniversary alongside the National Festival Orchestra Strings and the proceeds will go to the choir’s adopted charity, the Bradford Baby Bank.
Both choir and orchestra will be conducted on the night by Chordiality’s Music Director and founder Peter Sherlock.
In the early eighties, Peter, originally from Keighley, was an accompanist and arranger of music for a number of local singing groups, and it was this interest that led to him to consider starting his own choir. He approached a number of local performers and Chordiality found its voice.
With just 14 singers, and with Peter directing from the piano, Chordiality took to the stage at the then Chapel on the Hill, known locally as Daisy Hill Chapel, in Girlington, Bradford. Ten of those original members still sing with the choir today, although Chordiality now boasts a complement of 40 strong.
The Cathedral concert promises to be a special night with a programme that will excite the audience. Music will include works from Mozart’s Requiem and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Four Seasons and Faure’s Cantique De Jean Racine. A number of contemporary pieces will also be on the bill, with jazz classics It Don’t Mean A Thing and Sing, Sing, Sing and showstoppers As Long As I Have Music, Anthem from the musical Chess and the Elvis Presley classic American Trilogy.
