The free recitals take place every Wednesday at 1pm from the 10th January to the 27th March 2024

The popular weekly free ‘Wednesday@One’ organ recitals return to Bradford Cathedral after the Christmas break.

This season will feature a line-up of twelve organists, starting with Michał Szostak from Poland, on Wednesday 10th January 2024, and includes dates focused around Ash Wednesday, International Women’s Day, and Holy Week.

The organ recitals begin at 1pm every Wednesday and are preceded by an optional £4 buffet lunch at 12:30pm.

The organ recitals are free to attend, though donations are welcome. The recitals last around 45 minutes and those attending are also welcome to explore the Cathedral before and after the recital.

Anthony Gray, Assistant Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral, says:
“We’re greatly looking forward to hosting another wonderful collection of musicians from all across the globe.

“This term’s series is themed around the six amazing Trio Sonatas by JS Bach, and we are very fortunate to be featuring all six sonatas across the series played by different organists. There will also be other trios by JS Bach and a plethora of wonderful music by a panoply of other composers.

“This season will also include a recital for International Women’s Day (the recital taking place on Wednesday 6th March) in which Hilary Punnett will play a programme of all female composers, including Amy Beach, Judith Weir, Jeanne Demessieux, and Cecile Chaminade.

“As always, recitals on Wednesdays @ 1pm are free to attend, last for around 45 minutes, and are preceded by the infamous buffet lunch (for a £4 donation) from 12:30pm. We look forward to seeing you!”

You can also read an interview with each organist, on the Bradford Cathedral website, in the week leading up to their recital. The interview with Michał Szostak is available online now.

The next recital season will begin on Wednesday 17th April, following the two-week break.
