Bradford Cathedral was announced as the winner of the ‘Leisure Venue of the Year’ award at the Telegraph & Argus Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Awards 2024, during an event held at The Broadway Bradford on Sunday evening.

With nominees across the ten categories, alongside sponsors, gathered to celebrate the successes of the District of Bradford, it was a vibrant night of music and entertainment showcasing the incredible work of groups who work in the city and beyond.

The Very Revd Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford, says:
“We are delighted to be recipients of the Leisure Venue of the Year award at the Telegraph & Argus Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Awards 2024. It was an amazing surprise to hear our name being read out, especially considering the quality of the other venues on the same shortlist. The Underground and Nightrain do such amazing things in Bradford, and it was an honour for us to be alongside them in the category.

“We were grateful to be in the company of so many businesses, venues, organisations and sponsors at the event, and it was a really positive showcase of what the city offers as we head into the next year.

“Our win acknowledges the hard work of the entire team at the Cathedral who have put in so much effort over the last few years into everything the cathedral does, from our programme of arts, music, tours and cultural events, to welcoming visitors from across the world.

“But it’s something we couldn’t do without all the City and District partners we also work with in bringing events and attractions to the Cathedral, and we’d like to acknowledge all those that we have welcomed in to the Cathedral, whether that’s musicians, authors, performers, or artists.

“We feel that this award win shows that the Cathedral offers something for everyone in the city and beyond, no matter their background or – with our events programme that includes many free events – financial situation.

“This award comes at such an important time for both us and the city. As we look towards 2025, when Bradford is the UK City of Culture, we would like to invite everyone to come and see us next year, whether that’s to explore our history and heritage, attend a service or join us for one of our many events, and we hope that in us winning this award it will help us improve our visibility to those across the district and beyond. Bradford Cathedral is here for you.”
